WAVE Powers RAVIN to Multi-Million Dollar Unified Communications Contract with Utility Giant PG&E

Seattle, Washington, USA – April 24, 2008: Twisted Pair Solutions (www.twistpair.com), a pioneer in unified communications software built to open standards, today announced that its WAVETM software technology has been fully integrated into the RAVINTM radio and voice interoperability solution developed by Network Integration and Consulting Services (NICS) of Draper, UT. The company also announced that the RAVIN platform has been selected by Pacific Gas & Electric Corporation (PG&E) as part of a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract to consolidate widely distributed electric control center operations.

One of the largest utility providers in North America, PG&E is a California-based utility delivering gas and electric power to more than 15 million people throughout northern and central California. PG&E represents approximately $34.8 billion in assets as of year-end 2006.

With many regions of the country having experienced widespread forest fires, heavy flooding or ice storms this year, some public utilities have already had their crisis management and business continuity plans put to the test.  Moreover, ongoing national concerns about terrorism, earthquakes and flu pandemics are forcing many of them to look even deeper at how they will coordinate and manage operations for a large and distributed field service organization, likely swollen with supporting guest crews using disparate communications technologies.

“Communications interoperability is a major focus for public utilities as they review and reinforce their emergency management processes and procedures,” said Tom Guthrie, President and CEO of Twisted Pair Solutions.  “Developed by NICS using the WAVE SDK, RAVIN leverages the power of WAVE software to deliver a state-of-the-art unified communications platform that meets all of PG&E’s business continuity planning requirements.”

RAVIN is designed to seamlessly integrate existing radio communications, telephony and IP network infrastructures to enhance an organization’s day-to-day and emergency communications capabilities, while providing a massively scalable platform for future system enhancements.  PG&E will deploy RAVIN as part of its plans to cost-effectively extend the useful life of its existing communications technologies and support operators with unified communications functionality, interoperability and mobility.

“PG&E recognized the value of unifying its communications systems with the RAVIN technology and WAVE is a major component of the solution,” said NICS managing partner Tim Willoughby. “We chose to integrate WAVE into RAVIN because it’s a proven technology already widely deployed in mission-critical applications worldwide.  But perhaps more importantly from a development standpoint, the WAVE SDK allowed us to bring a high-value solution to market quickly and cost-effectively.”

Twisted Pair Solutions Participates in DHS VoIP Interoperability Demonstration

Seattle, Washington, USA – 24 April, 2008: Twisted Pair Solutions (www.twistpair.com), a pioneer in unified communications software built to open standards, was a leading participant in the recent ratification and demonstration of a new Bridging Systems Interface (BSI) standard for SIP-based voice interoperability.  Held on April 10th at the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) facilities in Boulder,CO, six vendors successfully demonstrated full interoperability of their radio bridging systems using the BSI standard. The newly ratified standard will likely help accelerate the deployment of large scale interoperable communications networks using solutions from vendors that show compliance.

“The lack of a clear standard for unifying bridging systems technologies from multiple vendors has long been recognized as a major barrier to a broader deployment of software-based group communications technology by States, regional emergency management agencies and first responder organizations,” says Shaun Botha, Twisted Pair’s Co-Founder and CTO. "Now that the industry has a ratified standard for systems interoperability, potential users can proceed confidently with their interoperability projects."

Faced with a multitude of proprietary hardware and software interfaces that hampered interoperability planning and deployment, a SIP-based standard for bridging systems was considered one of the highest priorities by SAFECOM, a communications program of the Department of Homeland Security. The Office of Law Enforcement Standards (OLES) helped form the VoIP Working Group within SAFECOM and partnered with NIST to ensure that the VoIP Working Group could prepare an expansive draft standard for ratification.

The BSI specification, prepared initially by Twisted Pair Solutions and developed further in partnership with Cisco Systems, is now considered a complete document and will be published as a NIST report.  The report will be available on several government websites and will be used as a guidance document for State interoperability plans and fund requests. In its July 2007 Program Guidance and Application Kit entitled ‘Public Safety Interoperable Communications Grant Program’ the US Departments of Homeland Security and Commerce stated that advanced technologies such as IP-based software solutions should be considered when requesting funds.

Twisted Pair Solutions recently shipped WAVE 3.0, the latest version of its widely deployed and proven unified group communications software. With feature enhancements that significantly improve the ease and speed of deployment, operational resiliency and the security of mission-critical group communications networks, WAVE 3.0 is highly focused on the needs of defense and civilian government agencies, public safety and emergency management groups and large commercial operators in transportation, energy and finance.

WAVE Unified Communications Software Now Rated 'Avaya Compliant'

Seattle, Washington, USA – April 21, 2008: Twisted Pair Solutions (www.twistpair.com), a pioneer in unified communications software built to open standards, today announced that WAVE 3.0 is compliant with key IP telephony and unified communications solutions from Avaya, a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services.  Following testing in its labs, WAVE 3.0 has been rated compliant with Avaya Inc.'s Communication Manager 4.0.

WAVE unified communications software technology enables partners and customers to build and operate secure, highly scalable communications solutions in the world's most demanding IT environments.   Widely deployed in private and public networks around the world, WAVE is trusted in mission-critical environments where communications are indispensable.

“Standards-based software is the best approach to achieving greater communications interoperability as it allows customers to get more from their existing infrastructure and at a lower cost,” said Tom Guthrie, President and CEO of Twisted Pair Solutions.  “We’re delighted that WAVE has formally met AVAYA’s interoperability standards and we look forward to partnering with them on many joint projects in the future.”

Twisted Pair Solutions is a member of the Avaya DevConnect program—an initiative to develop, market and sell innovative third-party products that interoperate with Avaya technology and extend the value of a company’s investment in its network.  As a Platinum member of the program, Twisted Pair Solutions is eligible to submit products for compatibility testing by the Avaya Solution Interoperability and Test Lab in Lincroft, N.J.  There a team of Avaya engineers develops a comprehensive test plan for each application to verify whether it is Avaya compliant.  Doing so ensures businesses can confidently add best-in-class capabilities to their network without having to replace their existing infrastructure—speeding deployment of new applications and reducing both network complexity and implementation costs.

“By offering compliance testing to the many innovative companies like Twisted Pair Solutions who are members of our DevConnect program, Avaya promotes fully interoperable solutions that help businesses unleash powerful new possibilities,” said Eric Rossman, vice president, developer relations and technical alliances, Avaya.  “They are able to use Intelligent Communications to connect employees and customers to information from wherever they are, over whatever device they have available – getting more out of their multivendor network and delivering new value to their bottom line.”
