WAVE Deployed by PHI Air Medical Group as Part of Major Communications Upgrade
Seattle, Washington, USA – February 18, 2010 - Twisted Pair Solutions, a pioneer in unified communications software, today announced that its WAVE® technology has been deployed by Phoenix-based PHI Air Medical Group as part of a major radio network enhancement delivered by communications, engineering and integration specialists ARINC Inc.
Time is always critical for PHI Air Medical, one of the country’s leading providers of emergency helicopter transport for hospitals and public safety agencies. By deploying WAVE software, PHI can now extend the range of its radio communications network and allow full interoperability between different radio systems, giving dispatchers, pilots and third-party operators the ability to serve their customers faster and with even greater safety.
Key elements of the PHI upgrade project included new digital command consoles and custom software at four communication centers and new digital network hardware at 53 new and existing air-ground radio sites to expand and enhance the network’s national radio coverage. WAVE software technology was deployed in order to extend the reach of radio channels using an IP network, so that PHI pilot-staffed dispatchers and PHI flight crews can instantly and clearly communicate via any of the 53 radio towers on the nationwide network. In addition, all operations centers can now communicate easily with one another and - if the need arises - assume one another’s responsibilities for local radio or phone traffic.
“Safety has been and always will be our primary focus when it comes to improving the way we operate,” said Dave Motzkin, Director, PHI Air Medical. “This upgrade in our communications capabilities is the latest in a long line of safety innovations that will help to ensure our dispatchers are not overloaded and that our pilots are better connected, ultimately resulting in safer operations across the country.”
“ARINC has done an outstanding job delivering new capabilities to PHI Air Medical and we’re naturally proud to see WAVE deployed as part of that mission-critical, life-saving environment,” said Tom Guthrie, President and CEO at Twisted Pair Solutions. "PHI joins Air Evec Lifeteam and a growing number of other air medical transport organizations that have selected or deployed WAVE as the answer to their complex communications needs."
