Twisted Pair Solutions Extends Enterprise Unified Communications to Push-to-Talk Radios with WAVE 4.0
Nortel-certified WAVE 4.0 Adds SIP, Integrates with Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS), and Supports the Nortel IP Phone Communicator Client and Additional Radio Gateways
New WAVE-powered TRICS Communications Appliances Include Radio Remote Control
Seattle, Washington, USA – July 8, 2008 – Twisted Pair Solutions (www.twistpair.com), a pioneer in unified communications software built to open standards, today announced that Arlington, VA, based By-Light has developed the Tactical RoIP Inter-Communications System (TRICS) appliance, a full featured Radio-over-IP (RoIP) gateway, media server and media management platform that enables the integration and distribution of voice and data-based radio traffic over an IP network. Designed with rackmount and ruggedized vehicle enclosures, TRICS appliances streamline the delivery of RoIP services with a single box approach and remote management capabilities.
In a majority of existing communications environments, the operations staff is required to manage a multitude of different devices that together provide VoIP and RoIP services. These devices include radio equipment, network equipment such as switches and routers, application servers, radio gateways and so forth. Furthermore, the often remote physical location of radios and the security measures required to protect them mean that operations staff often have to move from location to location to configure, manage and maintain the radio equipment. Available in four or eight radio versions and with a variety of VoIP, POTS and data connections, TRICS appliances consolidate most service delivery functions into a single unit, while remote radio configuration allows operators to configure their radio equipment from any network connected station.
“Our TRICS solution addresses a growing industry requirement for tightly integrated voice and data services that include radio-over-IP and remote radio configuration,” said Jeff Adelman, Product Manager at By-Light. “And because it is built around WAVE and is seamlessly compatible with all WAVE clients, TRICS appliances scale from a single-site, single-box solution to a full enterprise wide architecture.”
TRICS appliances are powered by WAVE software technology, the most advanced unified communications and interoperability software available today. Standards-based software is the best approach to getting a variety of traditionally disparate communications systems such as radios, analog and new IP phone systems, PCs, PDAs, and proprietary devices to all interoperate seamlessly, and WAVE’s distinct software-based approach eliminates the burden of deploying additional, typically proprietary and costly hardware. WAVE 4.0 is the latest version of the software and includes new features and functionality designed to extend the reach of enterprise applications and platforms from Microsoft and Nortel.
Through an extensive solution developer and integrator community that includes innovative partners like By-Light, WAVE customers can develop true interoperability solutions by integrating push-to-talk radio communications into enterprise applications and IP telephony solutions.
“By-Light has created an innovative product that will rightly appeal to users seeking a technically advanced all-in-one solution to Radio-over-IP,”’ said Tom Guthrie, President and CEO at Twisted Pair Solutions. “Radio remote control is an important capability and will likely contribute significantly to TRICS’ market adoption.”
